From 15to 18 of June, 2016, the Claretian Missionaries Sons of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Delegation West Nigeria gathered for its !Vth Assembly at the Claret House of Theology, Elerumoke, Ibadan in Oyo State, South-west of Nigeria.
There were 36 participants with Father General, Matthew Vattamattam presiding over as the President of the Assembly. In fact, this was his first official visit to Nigeria after the General Chapter of 2015 elected him the 13thSuperior General of the Claretian Missionaries. The first from Asia.
However, in keeping with the spirit of the Congregation’s XXV General Chapter, the 1Vth Assembly of the Delegation aligned itself with the theme of the Chapter: “Witnesses and Messengers of the Joy of the Gospel”. This, in itself, was in keeping with the sentiments of the Holy Father Pope Francis’ “The Joy of the Gospel”.
With this in mind, the Assembly reflected over the life and experience of the Delegation drawing from the Government’s report and the economic situation of the Delegation.
Fr. Peter Okonkwo who moderated the Assembly made everyone to participate actively. All were involved in laying down concise proposals which later formed the resolutions of the Assembly that touched every aspects of our missionary life ranging from government, formation, apostolate, spirituality, economy to youth/vocation ministry.
The Assembly members made very outstanding call,urging on the Delegation Government to be faithful and prompt to the implementation of the resolutions therein formulated.
