VR BR CARLOS AT THE CLARET HOUSE OF THEOLOGY, IBADAN

May 28–31, 2025, Claret House of Theology, Ibadan. In continuation of his Animation Visit to the Delegation West Nigeria, fostering communion and oversight within the Organism, Br. Carlos Verga CMF, the Prefect of Youth and Vocations Ministry, continues the Canonical Visit to the Claret House of Theology, Elerumoke, Ibadan, from the 28th to the 31st of May, 2025. The Visit officially opened during the Vespers, at which he briefly reflected on Chapter XVII, nos 128-134 of the Constitutions relevant for such Congregation activity.

Personal Encounters and Dialogues

The General Visitor engaged personally with every member of the community. These moments provided a privileged opportunity for the exchange of reports, personal reflections, community experiences, and pastoral insights. The members shared their perspectives on community life, academic formation, pastoral activities, and personal growth within the context of our mission.

Plenary Session with the Community

A plenary meeting was held with the entire community present. During this session, Br. Carlos offered a significant reflection on the broader Claretian Family, highlighting the existence of approximately eight other Secular Institutes of Consecrated Life that form part of the extended Claretian charism. Since the 31st of May is marked as the Day of Vocations for the Claretian Family, he asked that we bear in mind these other members of the Claretian Family as we pray for vocations.

He strongly emphasized the need for a genuine fraternal spirit in community life—one that is devoid of superiority complex and clericalism. He reaffirmed that all members of the community are fundamentally equal by virtue of their baptism and profession, thus, are co-responsible in the shared mission of the Congregation. Furthermore, he indicated his willingness to dialogue with the relevant authorities concerning the improvement of the community’s economic strength and sustainability.

Gesture of Community Appreciation

In a gesture of gratitude and cultural appreciation, the community presented Br. Carlos with a traditional Yoruba attire, symbolic of the local cultural heritage and the regional identity of the Claret House of Theology in Ibadan. There were joyful moments of exchanges which capture the warmth and cordiality of the visit.

Then, Fr John Paul Achi, the Major Econome of the Delegation, officially presented to Br. Carlos the newly acquired Coastal Bus. This vehicle, made possible through the support of the General Government, represents a significant mobility asset in view of the anticipated increase in student population in the coming academic year.

Conclusion and Departure

Br Carlos departed the community on May 31, 2025, leaving behind encouraging words and messages of affirmation for the community.
