Ado-Ekiti, November 07, 2025. On this date was laid to rest, the mortal remains of Most Revd Michael Patrick Olatunji Fagun, the Emeritus Bishop of Ekiti Diocese.
In his own words, Baba Fágùn told us: “My full name is Michael Patrick Olatunji Fagun. I was named Olatunji by my parents – Theophilus Fagun Oganla and Rebecca Theresa Fakolade and I happen to be the only male living. Olatunji signifies renewal of grace to higher prospects. I became a blessing to my parents and to the wider society. There was nothing extraordinary about my birth. No comets seen portending good or evil. Except from the spiritual point of view, I was born on Easter day 1935, 90 years ago. I was baptised Michael, after the Archangel. Patrick was appended to my name at confirmation in fancy of the patron of Ireland. And like St. Patrick of Ireland, God raised me to the rank of a Bishop in 1971, six years after ordination to the priesthood on July 4, 1965. Things went fast. In 1972, I became the first Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, carved out from Ondo. Incidentally, the same Bishop William Field, SMA, baptised me, ordained me a Priest and consecrated me a Bishop. Glory to God.” (Compiled from: https://www.bishopfagun.org/my-story)
