Theologate, Elerumoke–Ibadan, September 9, 2020. It has been a week of blessings for the entire Claretian Family in the Delegation West Nigeria. This day, Wednesday, September 9, 2020, the Delegation witnessed yet another increase in the number of her ordained ministers as 7 of our brothers were raised to the Orders of the Diaconate and Presbyterate at the magnificent Claret Theology House, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
Ordained Priests were:
— Fr. Bernard Ogbu
— Fr. Ignatius Nweke
— Rev. Aghedo Samuel
— Rev. Alufohai Godwin
— Rev. Amgbeye Jude
— Rev. Dudiegha Barnabas
— Rev. Ikyum Cyprain
The ordaining prelate was the Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Ibadan, Most Rev Gabriel Abegunrin.
However, let us make a necessary exception in this report with regard to Fr Bernard Ogbu—for the sake of sweet mother history. Since the Claretian Missionaries started their Novitiate in Utonkon, Benue State, Nigeria, many candidates have come from that unique North-Central clan through which the old locomotive trains from Enugu (Coal-city) puffed their way, screeching and squawking, languidly, but determinedly, to the far North of Nigeria. Nevertheless, as the candidates came, they left. Only Bernard remained. Congratulations to both the Delegation West Nigeria and to the newly ordained Fr Bernard.
The event witnessed a handful of Claretian Missionaries and the lay faithful, who kept to the extant regulations by the Presidential Task Force regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
We remain grateful to the different formators in the various stages of the priestly formation of our newly ordained brothers for their unalloyed commitment in accompanying these candidates to their respective ministerial offices.
We thank the Lord for the increase in vocations and ask the intercession of Our Holy Mother Mary for the newly ordained to be faithful to their call.
