NIGERIAN CLARETIANS ORDAIN THEIR DEACONS

Ikorodu-Lagos, Sunday, December 8, 2019. The Claretian family in Nigeria celebrated with joy and in thanksgiving to God the diaconate ordination of three of her members at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Ikorodu, Lagos. The newly ordained deacons are:

  • REV. NWEKE IGNATIUS CMF, West Nigeria Delegation
  • REV. OGBU BERNARD, CMF, West Nigeria Delegation and
  • REV. OKOYE VINCENT, CMF, East Nigeria Province,

The ordaining Prelate was the Catholic Bishop of Bauchi Diocese, His Excellency, Most Rev Dr Hilary Nanman Dachelem, CMF. It is pertinent to note, for the sake of history, that Bauchi Diocese includes Gombe State as its juridical territory. Thus, the diocese has two large States located in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria and are predominantly Muslims.

However, in his homily during the Mass, Bishop Hilary described the celebration as a sign of growth in the life and mission of the Church and those of the Claretians Missionaries in Nigeria. “It is a manifestation of the action of the Holy Spirit, especially, in the West Delegation and the entire Christian community of Ikorodu.” He congratulated the Superiors of both Claretian Organisms and encouraged the newly ordained to be steadfast in their faith and conscious of their state of life as Religious, and in the new ministry as deacons.

The Major superior of the Delegation, VR Fr Daniel Onyeayana, CMF in his closing remarks thanked the Bishop for his availability and for accepting to ordain our brothers as deacons. He also thanked the parents, friends and well-wishers of the Claretian and the newly ordained for their prayers and presence.

The Secretary of the Claretian Missionaries, East Nigeria Province, Fr Matthew Iwuagwu, CMF duly represented their Superior, VR Fr Simeon Nwobi, CMF.

We rejoice with these our brothers and pray for God’s grace to live and carry out their new apostolate with success and joy.
