October 24, 2019, Postulate – Ibefun. On this feast of our Holy Father Founder St Anthony Mary Claret, the Delegation West Nigeria officially received 11 candidates into the Claretian Postulancy programme for 2019/2020 calendar year. It was historic for these young men to begin their journey in the Congregation on the feast day of our Founder affectionately called Padre Claret by his contemporaries.

10 of them are candidates for the Priesthood while 1 is for the Brotherhood. The Lord has blessed us again with that rare and glorious vocation.

The event, which took place at Blessed Claretian Martyrs of Siguenza Chapel of the Claretian Postulancy House, Ibefun, Ijebu-Ode diocese in Ogun State, started with the Eucharistic celebration presided by the Major Superior of the Delegation, VR Fr Daniel Onyeayana, flanked by the members of the Community, Frs Samuel Iyagbe, Gabriel Useni John and Jude Ofuani.

In his homily, the Superior instructed the Postulants on the importance of prayer as they officially begin their first stage of formation in the Congregation of the Sons of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Claretian Missionaries). He emphasized the need for them to understand their vocation and its core values as future Claretian Missionaries different from other Religious Congregations and diocesan life.

He admonished them to follow the examples of our Father Founder, St Anthony Mary Claret, and above all, to be open to formation.

The reception witnessed the symbolic presentation of the Autobiography of St Anthony Mary Claret by the Major Superior to the Postulants. Encouraging them to “chew it” so that it may introduce them to a life dedicated in proclaiming the Good News. A life they aspire to live. The climax of the event was the admission of the Postulants by the Major Superior in the name of the Congregation for further discernment of their vocation.

The new Postulants were entrusted to the care of Fr Jude Ofuani, the new Postulant Master, who the Superior reminded of his immense responsibility in introducing these young ones into the Claretian Missionary life with holistic and equilibrated formation.

We pray that our Holy Father Founder Padre Claret fills them with his spirit, and that the Immaculate Heart of Mary may accompany and protect them and our Blessed Claretian Martyrs strengthen their faith always as they begin their journey to Consecrated Life. Amen
