PADRE PIO — CUN MAIN HOSPITAL COMPLEX INAUGURATED

Maryland, Nekede, Owerri: Saturday, October 26, 2024. The Management and Staff, the Religious and lay faithful gathered at the Claretian University of Nigeria, CUN, Maryland, Nekede-Owerri, East of Nigeria, on the above date, for the formal inauguration of the main complex of Padre Pio Claretian University Hospital.

The event began with the Holy Mass led by the Provincial Superior of Claretian Missionaries, East Nigeria Province, Very Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Eke, CMF. In his Homily, the Provincial Superior described medical apostolate as one of the tripartite apostolates of the Claretian Missionaries and thanked God for guiding them to actualise this project. He further thanked the Vice Chancellor of CUN, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Wenceslaus Madu, CMF and his team, for their tireless efforts and commitment towards the realisation of such a great venture.  

In his vote of thanks shortly before the end of the Mass, the VC expressed appreciation to everyone who has been quite instrumental to the construction of the complex, and overall progress of the Hospital, especially his indefatigable foreman, Rev. Fr Dr. John Ezenwankwor, CMF; the Chief Medical Director, Rev. Sr. Dr. Maria Joannes Uzoma and her colleagues from the Holy Family Sisters of the Needy; Rev. Sr. Dr. Ann Sam and her colleagues from the Missionaries of Mary Immaculate; Rev. Sr. Dr. Theophanes Aguluka and colleagues from the Sisters of Jesus the Saviour; as well as Sr. Pauline Alaviel, a Franciscan Sister.  

After the Holy Mass, the Hospital which is situated at the strategic left wing of the main entrance of the campus, was blessed by the Provincial Superior in company of the VC, the Chaplain of the University and numerous other priests and religious.

Established in 2019 through the instrumentality of Claretian University Foundation, Padre Pio Hospital has lived up to her mandate of providing quality health care services at a very low and affordable cost to the people. In less than five years of its establishment, Padre Pio Claretian University Hospital has successfully acquired several state-of-the-art equipment for different diagnosis.

It has one of the well-equipped laboratories and pharmacies in town and boasts of several eminently qualified medical personnel drawn from both the Religious and lay people, who discharge their duties professionally with unbridled love and care for the patients. Today, Padre Pio Hospital is gradually and steadily becoming a point of reference for both primary and tertiary health care, greatly complemented by the serene ambient that soothes body and soul. These factors impelled the management, hugely challenged by paucity of funds, to dream, construct and complete, a tempo, the main complex inaugurated today.

Guests at the event were entertained by the cultural dance group of the Claretian Institute of Philosophy. To cap off the day, there was a free medical outreach.
